It took a long time for me to get this product to work properly. This item would sometimes ring for no reason, and on occasion not stop ringing. My chime was set to ring by a motion detector, and it would sometimes not ring when it was suppose to. It took trying it plugged in several different locations before it worked properly (and strangely a power outage after which it seemed to start working correctly). Its been a couple of months now and no problems. It is a little expensive for what it does, but it works and I am happy if not thrilled with it.

while x10 is a dead protocol i had some receivers so i bought the chime. it works but no volume control and not as loud as i hoped for. can't degrade a product when i knew what i was buying and got what i paid for although a little pricey.

I read someone else's review that said this
product was disappointingly not as good as
its prececessors but ordered it anyway. That
was a mistake. Sounds crumby compared to
my old ones and is not as loud.

Can't hear this thing, no volume setting. Poor product and the distance has to be within 20ft from the sensor to the chime (which they won't tell you that)

I setup a wireless motion sensor above my front door, pointing downwards so that when anyone approaches it, it goes off.
This is picked up by a wireless receiver, just inside which sends out an X10 pulse to all of my property on the AC power lines.
In this way, I carry the chime with me and just have to plug it in where ever I will be working. Then it sounds to let me know when somebody is at my front door.
This even works when I'm in my barn (on the same AC power), even when I'm running power saws!
Very effective!
