5Superb Construction; Non-LED Light Bulb A Downside  Oct 29, 2009
By Avid Reviewer "A Music Fan"
The quality of the construction is superb. The flashlight measures a compact 3" x 1". It has a dark grey / army green color.

The flashlight is mounted on the clip with a ball-and-socket joint. This gives it a very good range of movement.

The light twists on or off. The very top of the light bulb housing can be twisted to adjust the light source from "spot" to "flood." Unlike a maglite, this adjustment works independently from the on-off switch.

The only downside to this flashlight is it uses a bi-pin xenon lamp, not an LED light bulb. The lamp is similar to the ones used in the older model of the Mini Maglite flashlights. The light has a yellowish tint, and isn't as bright as light from an LED light source. (As an aside: the two other notable types of bulbs - the halogen and krypton light bulbs - are similar to xenon bulbs except these are filled with halogen and krypton gases, respectively.)

The build quality is very good and the free range of movement makes this flash light an ideal clip-on light. I'm quite happy with it even though it doesn't use an LED light bulb. Definitely recommended.

3A little on the large side  Dec 12, 2010
By J. Lundeen "Budruss"
Well, to start out with the construction of this thing is pretty solid. The on/off switch is rugged and seems to be built to last, the plastic is pretty tough and would probably survive being dropped multiple times, (Haven't tested that theory, though) clip has nice grips molded into it with a pretty strong spring. The one weakness this has is the snap that holds the battery compartment shut. I think over time this would be the first to go.

That being said the thing that rather turned me off about this light is it's size. It's a little wider than two AAA batteries side by side (Which is its power source) and almost twice as long. Just a little too large to, say, clip to the brim of a baseball cap comfortably or wear on your jacket collar. For it's bulk and weight I would have hoped for something a lot brighter, perhaps using a super-bright LED instead of it's xenon flashlight bulb.

If, however, you are planning on clipping it to the visor in your car or need a battery operated stationary light somewhere then this is a good choice. Not especially powerful (Hey, what do you expect from a 2 AAA xenon light?) but it will light up those hard-to-reach areas at close range well enough. This would have been a pretty great flashlight in the mid 1990s.

In conclusion, I liked this light overall even though it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. Sure it could be better but if a simple clip-on positionable light is all you need then this will fit the bill nicely.

4A little heads up for this item  Nov 21, 2010
By bilwhit
I bought this because of the very poor lighting in my new car: only the overhead dome, very hard to reach, which doesn't illuminate the black interior in the front seat-dashboard area. I found a place to clip the light, which now makes it possible to see the cupholders, etc.

I do wish it had an on-off switch instead of the rotating on-off collar, which is hard to use with one hand, without using the other hand to hold the body steady.

The negative was that after having it on for about an hour, I realized it was no longer working. The batteries were almost dead. When I got home, I changed the batteries, and noticed that the 2 batteries that came with it had expiration dates of Feb. 2010. Since this is Nov. 2010, it might be expected that they would be on their last legs.

My point is to notice the date on the batteries before you install them; if like mine, you might want to dispose of them and put some new ones in.
