5Tool-less RJ-45, white  Oct 14, 2011
By Carol_in_WV
These work well, easy to get a solid connection. Instructions not included, but installation is pretty straightforward. In case if would save anyone else a 'trial and error' moment . . .

1) Threading worked best for me when I left stripped wires a bit long, then snipped after they were in place. That way, I could manuever wires from outside the connector, instead of trying to reach down into connector. The handle end of the included lever worked well for pressing wires down to seat them in plastic grooves.

2) Remember to thread wire through the loop (which serves as the latch on the unit) before making connections; hinged connector cannot close and latch unless wire goes through that loop.

3) I know, everyone else will already know this: place contact wires across the non-metallic channels with the color-code markings, then latch connector. I have only used connectors with punch tools, so I wanted to press the wires into the metallic side of the connector. This is probably obvious, but if you do not use things like this often, maybe it wouldn't be automatic for you, either.

Nice product, easy to use. Would purchase again.

5Easy to install - works great  Nov 20, 2011
By D. OConnor
I recently installed a home network and used these Jacks. I found them easy to use.. Each jack is color coded so it is easy to figure out where the wires should slot in. The jack also has slots to cradle the wires so all it takes is a squeeze to get everything to work! You will probably need a small needle nose pliers to help with wire placement (especially if you are like me and have big fingers! :-) )

3Works well, difficult to install  Apr 27, 2012

I purchased these CAT6 jacks to complete an installation of a home network as they were both cheap and seemed easier to install. While they were cheaper than the punch down jacks I installed prior to these, they were not easier to install nor were they completely tooless.

The problem stems from the way that the individual wires are pressed down into the channel to make proper contact. As depicted in the instructions included on the back of each jack package, you have to use both of the dust cover lids to press the wires into the channel. After aligning pairs 1 and 4 closest to the hinge, you then close the latch to seat them. Open them back up and perform the same steps with pairs 2 and 3. You then need to use a dyke or pair of snips to cut the excess wire from the channels so that they don't interfere with the installation of the jack in the receptacle or pick up unwanted EMI. It was also difficult to get the wires aligned as the dual hinge design pushes the fat CAT6 cable out of position.

With the punch down version of the jacks, I was able to place all four pairs into the channels, punch them down, and let the punch tool cut the excess wire. I also felt that the punch tool did a better job of forcing the wire into position with the metal contact than the hinge design of the reviewed product.

Overall, these keystone jacks did their job. I tested each run and was a first time go with the 8 that I installed. No problems in that area.

I would recommend these jacks to those that have a few lines to run and don't currently own a punch down tool. If you have a number of jacks to install, stick with the punch down version. You'll save time and frustration per install.

2Adequate, but a bit difficult to use  Nov 27, 2011
By Santa's helper
I bought 14 of these to run some cat 6 runs in my house. They are somewhat straightforward, but I found them a bit difficult to use. You have to get all 8 wires all lined up at the same time before finally squeezing the thing shut.

Sometimes it went smoothly, and sometimes I spent a bunch of time getting 1 wire on only to have it fall off. My first 2 worked well, but then I did 6 lines, and when I was done only 3 worked. So then I had to go back and try to figure out which ones didn't go on right.

In the end I ended up buying a bunch of the ones that do require a punch down tool, and found these much easier to use. You can get each wire put all the way on, and the whole thing went together very quickly and I knew that they were sunk correctly before moving onto the next wire. I wish I had figured this out before.

5Tool less operation works  Jun 15, 2011

Simple design which works well. Nothing more to say.

The idea is to stretch the wire over a channel then closing it makes the connection.
