I didn't think this changer was durable enough for my needs. I was wrong. This is a sturdy, heavy duty gender changer (at a great price) that will work in any application.

IDENTIFICATION
"A Female-to-Female" means that the adapter has female type-A plugs at each end. Type-A USB plugs are rectangular about 1/8" by 1/2". If your plug is as wide as your finger, and resembles the photo, it is a "Type-A", and almost certainly male. If there is NO flange (lips) at the end of the plug, it is male, if there is a flange it is female. The lips are visible in the photo, but are not obvious. The plastic molding could extend all the way to the end of female plugs (covering all the metal), but doesn't in this case.
USE
Male plugs are the kind which you plug into the (female) socket on your computer or other device. Many of us have a drawer full of orphan USB cords with male-A plugs on both end. This F-F type-A adapter will allow you to connect two of those male-A-to-male-A cords---in effect to use one of them as an extension cord. Sure, USB extension cords, or simply longer cords, are cheap and are a better solution (if all you want is a longer cord), but this adapter allows you to mix and match cords which may have non-USB type-A plugs at the other ends, that is; to make-up your own adapters.
CAUTION
Caution, exercise judgement---just because you can make a physcial connection doesn't mean that the attached device will not fry. For example, my Sony camera can hypothetically use ANY M-A to M-mini-B cord (and I've used a variety of cords). So, I tried to attach it with M-A-to-M-A cord and a M-A to M-mini B adapter. It died---something weird with the adapter. (Fortunately after taking the battery out of the camera waiting a while, and reinstalling the battery, the camera successfully rebooted with no lasting damage) Conversely, standard looking cords are sometimes NOT standard, some are wired for power, some for data, some for both. For example my Nikon Coolpix takes a standard-looking USB male-A to USB male mini-B cord---but it MUST be a Nikon proprietary cord. If the instructions say "Use only this cord", then use ONLY that cord. Label proprietary cords---I use blue painters tape for such labels. (Start with a 2 to 3" length of tape, fold it in half over the cord, to create a tab you can write on with a permanent marker, aka a "Sharpie"). TRAVEL
The gender changer CAN be a good addition to a travel kit, so that for example a male-male cord can be used by itself with one device or (with the F--F gender changer) as an extension cord for another device. I carry a male-A--male-A cord, the gender changer, and several adapters (female-A to male-B and female-A to male mini-B), plus proprietary cords (all of which are male-A on one end). I can use the MA--MA cord by itself or (with the FA--FA gender changer) as an extension for other cords.
I was annoyed by the slow delivery (about 3 weeks), until I realized that it was shipped directly from Hong Kong. How on earth can you sell an item for $1.44 with free shipping, and ship it from Hong Kong????
