It includes a feed-through outlet for your existing dryer to use so you won't block the outlet for your clothes dryer.The reason you need a SignaLinc Plug-in Coupler-Repeater is because most homes have 2-phase 220V power that splits into two separate 110V legs, sometimes X10 signals have a hard time making the transition from one leg to the other. Simply plug a SignaLinc Plug-in Coupler-Repeater into your home's 220V electric dryer receptacles and it will detect and amplify X10 signals between the two power lines in your home. They are better than the Passive Signal Bridges because this unit actively amplifies or re-generates the X10/PLC signals, your receivers will get a stronger signal than what they would have received directly from the originating transmitter via the non-amplified signal bridge. This fixes a problem I've had for a couple of years. Signals sent from an X-10 control panel to X-10 controllers would not make it there if the control panel and the controller were on separate electrical phases. I tried the design posted on several web sites where a capacitor is wired across the phases to provide a low impedance path for the signal. I even tried an improved design that included an inductor tuned to reduce the impedance for the specific X-10 signal frequency. These helped, but it still did not work about half of the time. Since I've started using this repeater, it works every time! The cost is a lot more than a capacitor, but if you want a system that really works and is easy to install (no breaker panel installation here!), then it's worth it.

After years of off and on futzing with where to plug in X10 controllers, some things not working, trying moving things around - arggh! I put in a hard wired phase coupler by the panel - it barely helped.

So now, I just plug in this repeater by the clothes dryer and holy cow, everything works just like it should. I removed the useless phase coupler, now using only this 4826B repeater and things are swell.

Installed this itme about 1 year ago. Well designed device plugs directly into a Dryer Receptacle (meaning no electrician needed). Works like a charm. If you have a large house (>3000 sq ft) this device will repeat x-10 signals on both legs of your service and make your x-10 system far more reliable.

Works as advertised and the installation was easy. Make sure you have the depth tolerances specified by the manufacturer.

If you can not get a signal to part of your house this is the first thing to try. If you still have issues then look at Leviton 6288 Noise Block Plug-In Module.
