This is my vampire electricity killer. I use it to turn all electronic equipment off when I leave. Difinitely a good product. Would recommend to others.

A very solid product Dec 06, 2010
By Kefer I couldn't disagree with the previous review more. I have been building an Insteon system since Smarthome first released it - I am up to about 20 modules including switchlincs, lamplincs, usb computer controller, and appliancelincs, and in that time I have never had any of them fail. I have had a few of them lock-up, which might look like a failure if you don't know how to reset the module, but it is very simple to reset and in fact has only happened to me once or twice over many, many years.
I am still running a few old x-10 modules as part of my system, and those do tend to fail over time. But I have never had an insteon module actually fail. Very good product.

CFL friendly? Jul 11, 2011
By A Etre I bought 2 for lamps that I have CFL bulbs in. Both were easy to set up and program. One works great but the other does not want to come on automatically per the program I have set up. It's too soon to say whether there is a probelm with the device or this is a case of use error.
Complete lack of Quality Control Nov 29, 2011
By John Taaffe Its the only Insteon product that worked. The rest failed time and time again. After a month of back and forth with their support, and trying many revisions of the product, I ended up sending it all back

good concept low reliability Dec 04, 2010

I purchased one of these Appliancelinc V2 modules in March 2008 and used it for a total of 8 weeks until it failed in Dec 2010. I used it for inside xmas lighting. It failed completely about ten minutes after I plugged it in this year. I think the Smarthome Insteon modules work pretty well when they are new, but I've now had three different units fail (two wall switch/dimmers and this Appliancelinc). The two wall switches failed within the two year warranty and were replaced by Smarthome, although it took several months before they finally credited me for one of them.
In general, use these if you have to, but until the quality control improves I would stay away from them. Alternatives are available from Leviton.
