Love it!! Mar 02, 2011
By Dominic I am a big tech freak and I absolutely love these dimmers. I first heard about the insteon automation controllers while doing some rewiring at my music production studio. We used to have to use Variac dimmers which were massive dimmers that didn't cause any noise when dimmed. With the research I did I decide to give insteon a try and since installing them we have been extremely happy. They don't cause any noise at all. For my home I have installed six keypadlinc dimmers in my home as well as a bunch of other insteon automation devices and they work flawlessly. I have started to connect all of my devices with Homelinc which is the software that allows you to link and synchronize all of the installed devices. So far the programing has been a breeze and I can control any light from any location in the house either from a keypad or a wireless remote. They were relatively easy to install and Smarthome's customer support line was very help full with the few questions I had. I would highly recommend these dimmers.

Good solid product & liked the "Wow" factor May 29, 2011
By Dan Installation was really simple & easy, I replaced the switch for a switched outlet in my living room with this KeypadLinc and can now control 8 different functions around the house. I set each button up to remotely control my patio, spa, and low voltage lighting. The costs of the INSTEON components is comparable to the cost (and time) that is avoided by not having to run wire for switch legs in an existing home. Plus I like the WOW factor..

Does exactly what I had hoped Aug 30, 2011
By Tony C In the form factor of a single light switch, this provides you a dimmer light switch plus the ability to control and monitor 7 additional Insteon devices (switches, outlets, etc.) I installed this along with 5 switches and 2 outlets (all insteon) and am very happy with the ease of use of all the devices.
There is one tricky part to this 8-button panel device that they are not very explicit about and that I had to think about a bit before figuring it out. You have to program the devices in both directions to be able to monitor a device if it can be controlled from elsewhere. That is, you have to tell the switch button what target device to turn on and off, and you then have to tell any other device that can control the target device to also control that button. You also have to repeat this for every way in which the target device can be controlled.
An example of this programming will help to ensure you are always monitoring the proper state of a light:
I have this 8-button control panel in the bedroom, an insteon switch for a light in the kitchen, and a controller that automatically turns the kitchen light on/off according to a timer. To ensure that the button on the panel can control the light and that it properly illuminates no matter how to light is turned on/off, you need to do three things:
1) Program the panel's button to control the kitchen switch: i.e., first hold down the button for 10 secs, then go an hold down the switch for a few seconds. This allows the button to turn the light on and off, but if you only do this then the button illumination will be wrong if the light is control by something else.
2) Program the kitchen light switch to control the panel's button. i.e., first hold down the kitchen switch for 10 secs, then hold down the panel's button. The button will now illuminate when someone uses the switch in the kitchen, but it will not illuminate if the light is turned on by the controller/timer.
3) In the controller program "scene" that is set to control the light switch, you have to also tell it to control the panel's button illumination. Thus, the timer is not just telling the switch to turn on, but the switch and the panel's button light. i.e., get the controller's scene into device detection/programming mode and then go hold down the panel's button to add it to the scene.
