Good first experience with Insteon Jun 23, 2011
By Felix After spending several hours over the span of a week on the phone with the Insteon Gold customer service line I purchased a handful of Insteon products to control lighting and the thermostat in my home (particularly when I am on the road for work). I purchased a Smartlinc, dualband switchlincs (apparently this is a newer product), and the 7 day thermostat. After spending time on the phone, the products were fairly easy for me to install myself. Remotely controlling the thermostat is a great feature and the products seem to work without fail. Great customer service from Insteon - I'll probably buy more products.

Goodnight May 19, 2008
By T. Jones Feels great to save money when I don't need the thermostat running while I'm asleep. I have a keypad by the bed to turn off the lights and the thermostat for when I'm going to bed.
Solid thermostat Aug 01, 2011
By J Ant Excellent product. Pretty easy to install. My old thermostat was already wired for Common power. I actually only used 5 wires not six. Smarthome forums has tons of help and guidance on installing/using.

Great thermostat BUT ---- IR abilities questionable/pricey Jun 19, 2011
By Brian Olson

I got this thermostat and the 'compatible' IR receiver from Sma**ho**. I really like the Venstar thermostat, especially the ability to set a length of time to turn on 'fan only' on the hour, a hard-to-find feature. For IR control, I had planned to use the Sma**home SmartLinc WAN/LAN controller which was also purchesed, for off-site heat&air management. This thing was hit and miss, I couldn't troubleshoot if it was the controler or the reciever causing the thermostat not to respond to commands. I wasted a lot of time troubleshooting the manual and via phone with Smartho**.
We just moved to a new home, and it appears to be functioning (SmartLinc controller & Venstar T1800 w/IR receiver), at least for now. The extra IR adapter cost $99, way overpriced for something that only sends/receives IR signals and has caused me this much headache.

waste of time May 19, 2011
By biggvsdiccvs I wanted to understand which part is actually the remote control. Unfortunately, instead of the product description, there is a long advertisement written by an excited idiot. I found the product manual on the manufacturer's website. It's not very clear, either, but it mentions in passing somewhere in the middle that the remote is IR (and it's probably the small rectangular thing on the bottom). This means it will have to be in direct view of the thermostat, which is makes it not that useful. They should have mentioned it in the product name or description.
P.S. It looks like they changed the description, which actually provides useful information now.
