Description:

The Smarthomeā„¢ Hidden IR Repeater System allows you to use an existing infrared (IR) remote control to operate up to eight audio/video (A/V) components located behind closed doors or walls in an entertainment cabinet or equipment closet. The built-in IR distribution technology gives you the ability to conceal, yet still control, bulky electronic equipment controlled by an IR signal. The system uses an IR receiver to take in the IR signals from an existing remote control and distribute those signals via IR emitters to A/V components. No more leaving cabinet doors open or struggling to remotely access your hidden equipment. That's it, now you can use your A/V remote control as usual, changing channels, scrolling through your CD, DVD or Blu-ray disk, all while the they are hidden from view. As an added feature, a confirmation LED indicator light has been built into the IR receiver to let you know when the system has received a remote control command. The included emitters can control many different A/V components. They're made of material that is transparent to IR light, so commands can still pass directly to individual components if desired. Each emitter cord is approximately six feet in length, with two emitters split off the of end; the emitter wires can be peeled away from each other to allow for a variety of mounting positions. If your equipment is located in a closet or rack more than six feet away from your monitor, add a 50 Foot IR Emitter Extension Cable to each emitter cable for added distance; two can be used for a distance up to 100 feet. Although not designed to reject interference from plasma or LCD TVs, you can work around this by installing the IR receiver eye in an area that isn't exposed to the TV screen - at the back of a bookshelf, on the wall below or next to the TV - somewhere the eye can't "see" the TV image. Just make sure you still have a direct line of sight from the eye to your normal seating position.

Features:
  • Use an existing IR remote control to operate hidden audio video components. Four dual emitters allow for remote control of up to eight devices

  • Allows IR signals to pass through solid doors or walls, line-of-sight to the components is not required

  • Confirmation LED built-in to the IR receiver acknowledges receipt of IR commands

  • This product is not compatible with Scientific Atlanta cable boxes or AT&T U-Verse boxes.

  • Warranty Two (2) Years.

3Make sure your devices are compatable  Jul 09, 2011
By stevevray
This unit appears to be perfectly fine, for most devices. But only when you open the package do you learn that it is not compatable with several devices including Scientific Atlanta, AT&T U-Verse, Verizon FIOS and Direct TV. Unfortunately, I bought this to control a Direct TV box. Amazon gets to process another return!. The compatability information should be made available to buyers BEFORE the purchase. I tried the device on another device and it worked fine. Appears to be good unit, just not with all devices.

5should have bought a long time ago  Jun 14, 2010

i own a flat screen, blu-ray, i have cable, a home theater with 5 disk dvd, and a seperate dvd recorder... this is all set up in a cabinet style media center with a flat screen mount above the cabinet. until i bought this, i had to leave the cabinet open all the time so that any of my five remotes could send the signal to it's component. now all i have is one little sensor under my tele, i can keep the cabinet shut all the time, and it makes things look so much better... everything is hidden away. i haven't had any problems with lag or delay with any of my remotes or their ability to control their pieces of hardware, and this was very easy to install. the only thing i am missing now is a good all in one remote !

4Great for hiding your components around the corner or in a closet  Aug 07, 2010
By William Gilmyers
This is my second one of these (the other one didn't die, I just needed a second one for a different room) and both have worked great. Perfect for hiding your a/v components out of the way for a nice clean look to your home theater.

Only reason for a four instead of a 5 is because the length of the cable from the repeater (which accepts the signal from the remote) and the box (in the closet that transmits the signal to your components) is pretty short and can't be extended (best as I can tell). This is a design change from the older models and not a good one. So you need to keep your components about 6 feet or so from the home theater. Depending on your set up and location of your stuff this is either no biggie or a deal breaker, your call.

Construction of the unit seems a little cheap, but given that you pretty much just set the thing up and then it sits there this is not a big deal. No moving parts or anything, so whatever.

Overall a great solution, works exactly as advertised.

5Works perfectly...should have bought in the first place  Sep 30, 2010
By Don
I have my HDTV in the main floor of my house with my A/V equipment located in the basement right below.

I was originally set back by the price of this repeater system. However, after trying two other lower price brands of repeaters that use RF to transmit the IR signals and have them not really work (worked 50-75% of the time...often having to repeatedly press the same buttons to get it to respond) I found I wasted over $50. One system worked for two of the components, and the other worked for the other...neither worked for all and they still didn't work that well.

I finally just ordered this system. And...

It works perfectly. Controls all my equipment flawlessly (Motorola DVR/Cable Box, Home Theater PC, Denon Receiver, Panasonic HDTV). I couldn't be happier.

Don't do what I did...just get the best from the start...

4Works exactly as advertised  Oct 08, 2010

I have my equipment in a closet and the TV is on the wall. This device allows me to control all the devices in the closet (Roku, Scientific Atlanta cable box, etc). I gave it four stars instead of 5 because there was one device it didn't work with: a Media center extender that's obsolete, so most people won't be affect.
