Exactly what I needed Oct 27, 2010
By PJ Photo The range on the RKR24 2-unit remote is exactly what I need. I have the receiver plugged into an outlet in the loft of our barn and with the RKR24 I can turn the outside barn lights on from inside the house (easily 50 feet away). I have it mounted with velcro just inside the door to the house. When we need to go out to the barn after dark, we grab the remote and turn the lights on. No more walking to the barn in the dark.
I also purchased the 4-unit remote (KR22A), which is very disappointing. I have to be in the barn for the receiver to get the signal. If the RKR24 2-unit remote will suit your purpose, definitely get it.

If you're buying this to control lights and appliances remotely, you're on the right path.
Don't forget, though, that you will also need a transceiver (a unit with an antenna that will pick up this remote's signal and feed it down the wires to the actual devices that you're looking to control), AND the control units for the devices (appliance modules, light modules, x-10 wall switches, etc).
Say what you will about the x-10 technology, but nobody beats the value when it comes to x10. The range and reliability are VERY decent, and if you have any trouble, there is plenty of help out there.
Now, about the remote: The signal is strong; Unlike the 4-unit "credit card" x10 controller, which is a joke, this one has a decent range. Be sure to install your transceivers as close to the area where you will be using the remote, and to extend the transceiver's antenna fully.
As a side advice, if you have devices on two different phases, use *two* transceivers with the same code plugged into those two different phases; That will eliminate the need for bridging the phases.
When it comes to programming it, if you didn't get the manual with the device, Google it. Keep in mind, there are two slightly different sets of instructions; One for the models made prior to 2006, one for those made after. Try them both.
Also keep in mind that this remote will accept a bigger, cheaper, and longer-lasting CR2032 battery. You may have to use a couple of dot-sized dabs of crazy glue to make the shell of the remote to stay together, but that seems to be the case regardless of whether you're using the larger battery or not.
Lastly, this unit could do well with more buttons (it can turn of/on and dim only two different devices), but it is what it is -- I guess that's the tradeoff for ruggedness and reliability.

Keychain Remote for 2 Devices w/ Bright & Dim Buttons (KR19A/PHR04/RKR24) Jan 31, 2012
By Daniel Cheap feeling but works well. I use all x10 because it works ok and is so low in price compared to it competition. I also use harmony 1100. I upgraded from this product to the remote with 4 buttons.

Neat Idea, But Be Sure To buy the Receiver Dec 29, 2011
By Kevin Curtis This is a handy item to turn lights on from your car or anywhere in your home, but you must also buy the receiver for it at well. It does not function with the standard plug in units alone.

It has great range. Once soldered three wires and hook it up to TTL 7 and 8 on WebControl, its transmitter range is great, can control all 16 house zone and each zone 16 devices. Highly recommended!
