X10 system Nov 14, 2011
By docden I have used the X10 system for over 20 years with success but it was damaged by an electric line problem. Radio Shack was the original supplier, but has stopped supplying rhem. I bought the new system on Internet but hsve had problems The main fault is in the Mini-Timer, which is too small for adult fingers to pressa one button only. It also has a clock which cannot be read in daylig.v e also been erratic. This equipment is not as good as the old ones. Amazon has ordered these systems very well. My only complaint is with the Manufacturer.
Love the X10 line Oct 24, 2011
By Linda G I love the X10 line... Just make sure you buy the correct modules for everything. Once I figured out exactly which ones I needed, and installed everything (very very easy install, more complicated figuring out which modules you need), I now have everything in my bedroom set up to turn on and off via remote. Its awesome (esp because my light-switch is a long walk from my bed) as I was able to set all my lamps, ceiling lights, and a white noise sound machine all to turn on and off via remote.
One note, if you use an energy efficient bulb, I would use the appliance module, because the lamp module is meant to be used on a bulb that can dim, and this doesn't work with the energy efficient bulbs (since they dont dim).
All in all, to set up my bedroom, I bought a lamp module (used for any regular type of lightbulb), 2 appliance modules (for energy efficient lamps), the Compact Powerhouse X10 Plug-In RF Wireless Tranceiver Module (works as a receiver for the remote and an appliance module), a X10 4 Unit Credit card Controller Key Chain Remote (very durable and works great), and the X10 WS467 Remote Control Light Dimmer Switch (for the ceiling light - A bit complicated, as my housekeeper cant seem to figure it out, but since I pretty much rely on the remote, it gets the job done).
All in all I think I spent around a hundred bucks, but it was def worth it. I love being able to read in bed and turn off all the lights without having to get up (no, I am in excellent shape, its just the placement of the ceiling light switch is really far from my bed).
