Have ued X-10 modules for years. Excellent products. This is a three way switch. They have another use other than for use with an X-10 system. The remote/timer function to remotely control a three-way switch requires an X-10 transitter switch to replace one of the existing wall switches and the other switch is replaced with this slave. It's a two piece system an very easy to install. However most original three way switch intallations utilize toggle switches and you can't tell you the position of the switch if the light is on or off. The X-10 switches are all push button switches. Thus my intended use for this slave switch is to replace both toggle three way light switches with X-10 slaves. This solves the up/down position poblem with the original toggle switches. Obviously using two slaves will not operate with the X-10 remote/timer system because one of the two switches would have to be a transmitter switch. Using two slaves solves the annoying up/down toggle switch posiions of standard two way switches.
AS an aside, there is something that I have experienced with the X-10 system modules. Most transmitter modules have a dimmer function. However the X-10 dimmer system is incompatible with dimmable and non-dimmable flourescent light bulbs. They work fine with incandescent bulbs, but not flourescent or LED bulbs. Those bulbs will not turn off from the switch or remotely. I've been told, but haven't tried it, that the system will work with a two bulb fixture, where one bulb is a flourescent and the other is an incandescent bulb.
