I purchased this module to control our gas fireplace. The way our fireplace is designed a normal appliance module would not work as there is no 110v running to the on/off switch. The switch is a single pole single throw running low voltage. What I needed was a remotely controller set of relay contacts and that is exactly how this module works. The module can be configured for constant or intermittent points contact and can be set for relay and audio chime, chime only, and relay only. There is an audible click when activated or deactivated but this is not a problem for me.

Perfect anywhere you need to switch a dry or low-voltage contact. There is a soft "on" click and a louder "off" snap when the relay disengages. I am using this unit, along with an X10 motion sensor and radio transceiver, in a small museum. We have a TV playing vintage material with a noisy soundtrack. Our front desk volunteers were going crazy listening to it over and over. So I wired the universal module into one of the loudspeaker leads. Now the TV is silent until a visitor approaches, and it quiets down one minute after they leave.

I got two of these modules now controlling my sprinkler system, so that I can even let my server control them and I got access over the internet to it. Works great, thanks X10 for making this standard open, modular and thank God not proprietary, works even with Linux/Ubuntu.

This works great! An electrician put in the original wiring in our driveway, but we add and set these alerts as we need them. Ours is a magnet that alerts us when someone is driving up our driveway. Nothing else sets it off except cars and trucks- no animals, bikes, people, etc.
We rarely need a doorbell as we know when peolple drive up before they get to our door.
