Description:

Universal remotes come in handy, because you can control numerous audio/video components with a single unit, without having multiple controls cluttering your coffee table. The 5-in-1 RF/IR Non-Learning Remote performs the same functions, and with its own X10 button, you can control your lights and appliances without having to be in the same room with them. This special home control feature works in conjunction with a wireless transceiver (sold separately) to communicate RF commands. Four AAA batteries are also required but sold separately. The 5-in-1 RF/IR Remote replaces up to five remotes to let you control practically everything electrical in your home. It has IR technology that lets you control your TV, VCR, Cable and Satelite, and X10 RF technology that lets you control lamps and appliances anywhere in your home, so that within minutes, you can be using this remote to dim the lights, start brewing a fresh pot of coffee, and play your favorite movie.

Features:
  • Control your lights and A/V equipment with a single remote

  • Combine five separate remotes into one

  • Great remote for a great price

4Good for its price  Sep 17, 2009
By N. Farquharson
'Kind of cheap plastic. Instructions reasonably easy to follow. Very little help on the Web: what there is is for the previous model. I bought this remote because it purports to have a "learning" function. Well it does, but only for some devices. For a while I thought I was back to the situation I had with my existing "universal" remote - three devices on the universal and one that required its original remote. After two days of retrying several options for my Philips DVP3140, I finally found a four digit code that gave me most, but not all, of the original remote's functions. To its merit however, the UR74A does have a "pass-through" function that - after you have a close match - will let you overlay the Volume and Mute controls to work with all devices. Is it great? No. Is it worth $80? No. Is it good value for money at the above price? Yes, provided you are patient enough to experiment with it for a couple of days.

Purchased it directly from x10 website
And had it returned the very next day.
The buttons made of silicone and they stick when pressed. Sometimes you have to wait 1-2 seconds for the button to be released so that you can push it again. Very very annoying.
If you're ok with this, read on. Easy to use and operate. Although feels like it's very cheaply made.
